DESCRIPTION

This is the fourth 14er I've climbed, back in September 2012 with a few friends. This peak is just one of a trio (or quartet if you count Mt. Cameron) of 14ers, including Mt. Democrat and Mt. Lincoln, located near the Continental Divide southwest of Breckenridge. They are often climbed together and are sometimes collectively referred to as the DeCaLiBro (DemocratCameronLincolnBross). Mt. Bross can be easily seen from South Park and is unmistakable while driving along Colorado Rt. 9 between Fairplay and Breckenridge.

We did the entire DeCaLiBro that day in 2012, beginning at the Kite Lake trailhead (12,000'). After first taking the Mt. Democrat East Slopes Route to the Mt. Democrat summit, the standard DeCaLiBro Route takes you back down to the Democrat-Cameron saddle at 13,350' and up the Mt. Cameron west ridge to the summit. From there you continue to follow a well-defined trail northeast to Mt. Lincoln and then to the Bross-Lincoln saddle at 13,860'. From here, you follow the trail up a ridgeline to the summit of Bross before descending down Bross' West Slopes Route back to the trailhead.

*The summit itself is officially closed as it is on private property, so at the time we decided to ascend to 14,000' on Bross' slopes and call it good. I will probably go hike this peak again sometime down the road to make sure I get the actual summit.
